Membership in Tripoli

Build Bigger. Fly Higher. Join Tripoli.

Don Almeido _ X-Magg
The Tripoli Rocketry Association is the world’s leading organization dedicated to high-power rocketry. Since 1964, Tripoli has brought together people who share a passion for flight, engineering, science, innovation, and exploration.

Whether you are preparing to build your first high-power rocket or developing an advanced research project, Tripoli provides the knowledge, community, and organized environment to help you succeed.

Why Join Tripoli?

Tripoli membership gives you access to a worldwide community of experienced rocketeers and opportunities to learn, build, fly, and advance your skills. As a Tripoli member, you can:

  • Pursue Tripoli Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 high-power certifications
  • Participate in the Tripoli Mentoring Program as a qualifying Junior member
  • Connect with experienced flyers through local Tripoli Prefectures
  • Attend local, regional, and national Tripoli launches and events
  • Participate in research rocketry activities when qualified
  • Access current and archived issues of HPR Magazine and the Tripoli Report
  • Learn through technical articles, presentations, committees, and member resources

You do not need previous rocketry experience or certification to join. Tripoli members come from every experience level, from people building their first rocket to nationally recognized experts working on complex, high-altitude projects.

A Community Built Around Rocketry

One of Tripoli’s greatest strengths is its people. Our community includes students, engineers, teachers, construction workers, medical professionals, IT specialists, business owners, military veterans, and even a few rocket scientists.

No matter your background, you will find members willing to share their knowledge, answer questions, review a design, help solve a problem, or lend a hand at the launch site.

From your first flight to your most ambitious project, you will be surrounded by people who understand your enthusiasm for rocketry and want to help you succeed.

Advancing High-Power Rocketry

Tripoli has played an important role in the development and advancement of amateur high-power rocketry. Tripoli members participated in the Civilian Space eXploration Team, the first amateur organization to launch a rocket into space.

Our members have also contributed to projects involving universities, student teams, industry partners, and government agencies.

Through certification programs, research rocketry, motor testing, educational outreach, technical conferences, and organized launch activities, Tripoli continues to expand what is possible in amateur rocketry.

Learn From the Experience of Others

Membership includes access to HPR Magazine and the Tripoli Report, published four times each year. Each issue includes technical articles, project highlights, launch coverage, product reviews, rocketry news, photography, and practical information from experienced members. Members can also access the complete online archive of past issues.

Additional learning opportunities are available through Tripoli committees, technical presentations, online resources, local Prefectures, and events such as the TRATECH Conference.

Certification and Research Rocketry

Tripoli’s high-power certification program provides a clear path for developing the knowledge and experience needed to fly increasingly powerful rockets.

  • Level 1 allows qualified members to purchase and fly H and I motors.
  • Level 2 allows qualified members to purchase and fly J, K, and L motors.
  • Level 3 allows qualified members to purchase and fly M motors and above.

Junior members may also be eligible to participate in the Tripoli Mentoring Program, which introduces young rocketeers to high-power rocket construction and flight under appropriate supervision.  Experienced and properly certified members can also participate in Tripoli Research launches, where members may design, build, and fly their own rocket motors under Tripoli’s established safety requirements.

High Power Certification

Safety at Every Launch

Safety is at the core of everything Tripoli does. Tripoli-sanctioned launches are conducted under established safety codes and organized by trained and experienced volunteers. These events are backed by up to $3,000,000 in primary liability insurance coverage, subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable policy.

This organized environment allows members to develop their skills, pursue certification, experiment responsibly, and enjoy high-power rocketry with the support of an experienced launch team.

Connect With a Local Prefecture

Tripoli Prefectures are local groups that organize launches, meetings, certification opportunities, educational activities, and social events.

Your local Prefecture is often the best place to begin. Experienced members can help you choose an appropriate rocket, understand launch procedures, prepare for certification, and avoid many of the common mistakes new flyers encounter.

Each Prefecture operates independently, so local membership dues, launch fees, schedules, waiver limits, and operating procedures may vary.
